Community Work
Ulmus Trio enjoy performing in the community - we are available to give informal concerts in care homes, day centres, hospitals and hospices.
We tailor each performance to the given audience, but would typically include a mix of easy-listening classical repertoire alongside well-known songs and film hits. We encourage our audiences to participate through singing, clapping and more as much as they wish.
Ulmus Trio are also partnered with Music in Hospitals and Care (MiHC), delivering concerts in the Midlands and London.
See below for highlights from our recent engagements.

Exciting news!! We are now working with Music in Hospitals & Care (MiHC). MiHC is a charity that has been running since 1948 that provides live music sessions for people who are receiving care or treatment in healthcare settings across the UK. These include hospitals, hospices, care homes, day centres, special schools and other community settings. We're really excited to be a part of their work and look forward to sharing more updates from our concerts.

An early start on the train to Blackheath, London was needed for this recital at a residential care home. However, it was worth it when we were greeted very warmly by a full room of residents who had chosen to attend, all eagerly anticipating what we might be due to perform. The programme we presented was, as usual, a varied mix of classical pieces and more contemporary songs. It included 2 arrangements originally prepared for our recent concert commemorating the First World War Centenary:

* The Banks of Green Willow - George Butterworth (who fought and sadly died in the trenches)

* Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy - made famous by The Andrews Sisters

Both were well received, and we had a particularly lovely conversation with one gentleman who had enjoyed our more jazzy numbers, having at one stage been a keen trombonist!

27th June 2018

A lovely morning was spent at a local church Day Centre in Birmingham, presenting a concert to the attendees. We presented a varied programme balancing classical repertoire with more contemporary songs. We love inviting our audience to join in, and a particular hit with this group seemed to be our medley of pieces from 'Mary Poppins'. The group got some exercise in waving fabric kites and clapping along, as well as warming up their vocal chords singing along to 'Feed the Birds'!

They also seemed to enjoy our final piece of the morning, 'Can Can alla Rossini', which is a 2-minute medley containing extracts from 40+ tunes. Almost as soon as they had begun to sing one tune, another appeared! We were fortunate enough to be able to record this concert and you can hear some of their enjoyment on the recording.
